Old City shop owner selling mix of new and vintage items for over 20 years

Since 2004, Beth Gibson has procured unique items for her shop, More Than Old, located in Old City Philadelphia.

"We do a combination of antique and vintage pieces," says Gibson.

She currently has a mule chest for sale she says dates to "about 1760."

There are new items as well.

"American craft, in the contemporary, so we do blown glass from American glass artists. We do some wall art paintings from primarily local artists," she says.

There is other home décor, including small furniture, with a focus on barware.

"It's an incredibly rare piece," she says of an extra-long cocktail shaker.

There are a variety of vintage cocktail shakers, like the art deco-era barbell.

She finds a lot of her items at estate sales.

"The hunt is really the fun, fun part of the business," she says. "I love it."

Gibson says she started collecting pieces back in the '90s while working in IT.

"And one day my husband said, 'we're running out of space, you need to sell some things,'" she says. "I started doing flea markets. And then I started doing co-ops, the antique places where you can rent a space."

Once retired, she was able to open shop.

"Old City is just a fantastic place to be. I have the best clientele in the world," she says.

And Gibson can help you find the perfect piece.

Right now, she has vintage Bayel glassware from France.

"It was inspired by the glasses that we only had one of," she says. "And my clientele is kind of in the middle. I'm not a high-end antique shop."

Gibson says she is glad to hunt down housewares so they can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

"And you're gonna smile every time you look at it," she says. "It's been incredibly rewarding."
